Abstract

The article focuses on four poems by Gregorio de Matos (1636-1695) dominated by the topic of menstruation. After the contextualization of the theme from an anthropological point of view, we study the unusual way that the topic assumes in the texts of the Bahian poet, highlighting in particular the imagery variations performed by the author, in a register in which the obscene is attenuated by humor.
