Epilogue – The conversion of Ignatius of Loyola as a historical event and as a historiographical problem

Reading a collection of studies on the «conversion of Ignatius of Loyola» is a fascinating experience, all the more so when the volume is shaped by a young researcher, Gianfranco Ferraro, who overturns the usual perspective: the moment of Ignatius’s conversion is not framed within an approach centered on the life, actions and historical legacy of the founder of the Society of Jesus. On the contrary, it is Ignatius’s life itself — marked by the central event of his conversion — that becomes situated within a much broader perspective on the phenomenon of conversion in its philosophical, spiritual and psychological dimensions.
